YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Mantiqueira System Project Management Specialist is responsible for project management functions within the Mantiqueira Iconic Place (Atlantic Forest), supporting the Mantiqueira System Manager on managing, supervising and coordinating the implementation of diverse and complex projects in the region. This position will also support the Mantiqueira Iconic Place team to efficiently execute, measure and report on projects to deliver the enabling conditions to restore 1,5M hectares of the Atlantic Forest and the outcomes and metrics defined for the region. This position will report to the Mantiqueira System Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Mantiqueira System Project Management Specialist establishes guidelines and frameworks for project management methodology, best practices, and standards for TNC under a platform approach to support the implementation of key workstreams in the landscape. They will support the implementation of the key performance indicators (KPI), metrics, dashboards and governance of the Iconic Place, in order to deliver maximum value against conservation priorities and targets in the time and budget allowed, especially considering a carbon project implementation. They will coordinate project planning, management and monitoring activities with different TNC’s conservation strategies in the landscape and regionally: Water Security, Sustainable Agriculture, Restoration and Science, Policy, Marketing and additional competencies that may be required. They will be responsible to support the implementation of key elements of project management in the conservation work, such as budget management, deliverables, communication, risk management, scope definition and alignment with the core goals of the Mantiqueira Iconic Place.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Follow our Code of Conduct and demonstrate consistently out Values.
  • Develops and supports the implementation of project management standards, policies, procedures, and templates.
  • Provides technical assistance to implement restoration and carbon projects, using multiple Project Management methods, such as adaptive management, iterative and fast learning processes, software-based monitoring, collaborative working, etc.
  • Ensures projects are designed and managed in an efficient, cost-effective and aligned manner, considering PM standards.
  • Supports the Mantiqueira System Manager and the team to ensure the Iconic Place program is efficiently described, reported on and adaptively managed internally through the conservation hub.
  • Support Project Managers within the landscape to apply Project management standards and skills.
  • Collaborate with Science and Policy colleagues to develop appropriate project outcomes and targets and a monitoring and adaptation program for the Mantiqueira Iconic Place.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, training, and oversight related to project management capabilities for PM ́s inside and outside TNC.
  • Documents and shares key lessons and good practice.
  • Ensures compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • Acts independently and in supervisor’s stead, as needed; exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Coordinates the work of cross-functional, cross-divisional teams towards a desired outcome.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity in handling confidential information.
  • Develops and implement new initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
  • Ensures programmatic commitments, Conservancy policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance; decisions may bind the organization financially or legally.
  • Manages project budgets and assists with budget development related to strategic projects.
  • Manages and implements multiple complex projects, including managing project teams, setting deadlines, and ensuring accountability.
  • May manage or participate in complex negotiations and certification processes.
  • May supervise one or more administrative or professional staff, including training and professional development.
  • Travels occasionally, working long and flexible hours as needed.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant professional experience with project management and/or with portfolio management;
  • Experience managing diversified and complex workstreams and projects in a constant changing environment;
  • Professional experience with sustainability or conservation projects;
  • Completed coursework or other training on project management principles;
  • Experience in managing and tracking multiple projects;
  • Experience managing project teams and working with cross-functional staff;
  • Experience managing scheduling and financial aspects of small to large projects that range from short to long term;
  • Experience using Project Management tools, such as Microsoft Project, Celoxis, Clarizen, Primavera, or equivalent;
  • Portuguese and English fluent verbal and written skills.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years of professional experience managing large and complex projects involving public, private or mixed funds with national and international resources.
  • Graduate-level course in project management or recognized professional certifications in Project Management such as PMP, Prince2, Agile or Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM).
  • Experience managing projects in the Atlantic Forest region;
  • Experience working with environmental policies and Public Administration.
  • Experience supporting the negotiation of complex agreements;
  • Ability to manage and implement complex processes;
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated;
  • Experience supervising staff, interns and/or volunteers;
  • Proficiency in interpreting guidelines and manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to negotiate, influence, and persuade; and/or
  • Successful experience implementing strategic program goals.
